Green grass on the other side

To settle in the US or India is the quintessential NRI dilemma. Patrix has an interesting post that has led to a lot of discussion over the blogosphere. There are some things which are of interest when such a discussion takes place.

One: For an Indian who goes back to India for a vacation, it is easy to come across a preaching of partiotism. More so if you are from IIT/IIM (suckers , you get all this discounted education and then leave the country, you ..you ). I find it really interesting that people want to think that if someone decides to reside in one's country and make a career there, it is a certificate of some of partiotic sentiment and they have a right to dump others.

Two:
The NRI variety bitches about the situation in India non-stop, aisa lagta hai ki america ki wadiyon mein pale badhe the! How many times do you come across people who look at the chatwala on the sidewalk and express disgust how the people are eating there! Are yaar......you were doing the same thing a few years ago. Bhool gaye!

Three: The resident desi has this feeling of missing out on the wilayati experience, but justifies it in some way or the other. (Yahan bhi lifestyle acchi hai bhai...aajkal challenging kaam bhi rehta hai....upar se domestic help bhi milte hain....). The non-resident desi has the feeling of missing out on the homely experience (world is a global village now....internet makes you close to home... saal mein ek baar aa hi jaata hoon). The fact is, both have to make trade offs and they rationalize things just because they have to.

And thus goes on the show.
